Hi, I've been tooling around with learning Clojure and Slick at the same time, and it's been a very fun experience thus far. I think Clojure is a great language for game programming (at least on the small scale that I'm working on, which sounds similar to yours).
So far, in order to learn, I've been converting the sample platformer on the slick site over to a clojure platformer. This has made the learning curve a little less steep as I don't have to worry about design issues and can just concentrate on style and how to solve things the "Clojure" way.

That being said, I'm getting closer to the point where I'd like to be able to run the repl at the same time the game is running. Have you had much luck in this? Once I hand slick's game container control it never lets go until the game is exited of course.

Keep up the updates, it's great to read about someone else out there using this combination of tools!
